Visas for partners, spouses & prospective spouses
There are a number of Australian visa options for the partners, spouses, or prospective spouses of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens.
Partner Visa (Apply in Australia)
Lets you enter or remain in Australia on the basis that you are married or in a de facto relationship with your Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen partner. The 820 grants temporary residency; the 801 grants permanent residency, typically reviewed two years after the original lodgement.

Partner Visa (Apply Overseas)
Identical relationship requirements to the onshore visa, but processed offshore. The 309 grants temporary residency on arrival; the 100 grants permanent residency, typically two years after the original lodgement.

Prospective Marriage Visa
Lets you come to Australia to marry your prospective spouse, then apply for the partner visas above. You must marry within nine months of arrival; once married you can lodge a Subclass 820/801 application.

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship Visa
For people who are not New Zealand citizens but are members of the family unit of a New Zealand citizen. Lets you live and work in Australia for up to five years, with renewal options available.
